A B O U T

Changing the Lens project aims to engage University of British Columbia (UBC) campus community so as to promote opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-affiliation (i.e., amongst faculty, staff, students, and residents) dialogue on topical issues of relevance to the community.

We do so via Forum Theatre.

The project has 3 main phases:
Phase 1 – outreach/publicity activities, recruitment of workshop participants
Phase 2 – Forum Theatre workshop, during which pieces of theatre are created by participants
Phase 3 – performances to the wider UBC community, dialogue sessions

This year…

We will examine the social constructions of gender and gender identity, on how the media and popular culture affects our perception of feminity and masculinity. This would be done by discussions on misconceptions of feminism and societal discrimination based on gender.
